Position: PhD Researcher

I studied for my degree in Archaeology at Jagiellonian University of Kraków, Poland, between 2003 and 2009. I spent the first three years at my alma mater supervised by Prof. B. Ginter and Prof. J. K. Kozłowski during which I developed a strong interest in Palaeolithic archaeology, especially its cognitive and social aspects. This was mirrored by my second and third dissertation topics: ‘Smart or Skilful? Correlating Stone Tool Development with Hominid Brain Evolution’ and ‘Evolution of Hominid Social Organization’ respectively. In 2006, I moved to the University of Wrocław where with the help from Prof. J. Burdukiewicz I embarked on the most ambitious project yet, the MA dissertation. In ‘Spatial and Temporal Variability of European Lower Palaeolithic’ I investigated more than 150 sites from virtually every corner of the continent exploring their lithic assemblages, fauna collections and geological sequences. This was only possible thanks to the Erasmus convention which enabled me to spend my final year at the University of Liège, Belgium, where Prof. M. Otte kindly offered his guidance through the intricacies of Lower Palaeolithic archaeology. In 2009 I commenced PhD studies at University of Southampton at the same time working for a commercial archaeology unit based in the Cotswolds. However, in 2012 thanks to support from the EPSRC I could move to full-time research within the DTC program at the Institute for Complex Systems Simulation. Between 2006 and 2010 I was a freelance science journalist for Polish Public Radio and Italian based popular science magazine ‘Academia’.
