About

My current programme of work explores issues of workforce effectiveness using routinely collected data and the development and use of nurse sensitive outcomes and quality measures. I am particularly interested in issues of skill mix and substitution and the effect of change in the composition and organisation of the workforce on patient outcomes. I have long been involved in the evaluation of innovation in service delivery, including nurse-led sub-acute care and, more recently, the national roll out of the “Productive Ward, Releasing Time to Care” programme in England. I am currently working as part of RN4CAST consortium (www.rn4cast.eu) which is undertaking a major EU funded study on the impact of nurse deployment on patient safety.
